The Bazhong 500 kV substation is one of the first batch of 500 kV intelligent substations in Sichuan Province. It is an important power source in the Bazhong area and bears about 85% of the city's power supply load.

In order to meet the continuous growth of electricity demand in Bazhong region, State Grid Sichuan Power officially launched the Bazhong 500 kV main transformer capacity expansion project in December 2023. After the completion and operation of the project, the total capacity of Bazhong 500 kV substation will increase to 3 * 1 million kVA, and the power supply capacity of Bazhong power grid will increase by 1.3 million kilowatts, which can meet the power supply demand of Bazhong region in the next 5-10 years.
